The Clemmons Community Foundation announces Mateo Perez, a 2020 honors graduate of East Forsyth High School, as this year’s recipient of the Salem Glen Scholarship.

The scholarship, part of the Salem Glen College Assistance Program of the foundation, was established by Salem Glen, a charitably-minded residential community with homes in both Forsyth and Davidson County. The program provides a $2,500 scholarship and pairs the recipient with a mentor from the Salem Glen community who can provide encouragement, resource guidance, and opportunities for career exploration. Recipients are residents of Forsyth or Davidson County who plan to complete a degree or certificate program at Forsyth Tech or Davidson County Community College.

At East Forsyth High School, Perez was a Crosby Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, and a Captain and Commander in JROTC. For the past three summers he has worked at local libraries in Forsyth County through the Summer Youth Employment Program, gaining valuable experience in communication, research, customer service, and software management.

Perez will join Forsyth Tech’s Aviation Electronics (Avionics) Technology program this fall. His career ambition is to begin as an Aviation Systems Technician and work towards overseeing research projects for an aerospace company or the government.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected for the Salem Glen Scholarship,” Perez said. “I am very grateful to have my hard work acknowledged and be trusted with a scholarship donated by such generous people in my community. Once I have reached my goals, I plan to become a donor and help another student like me in their hopes of being able to afford to go to college and live their dream.”
