Up to $2,500 for local/young adult students from Yadkin County

Purpose: Dr. Wayne Curtis Matthews served as Director of the Yadkin Center at Surry Community College. He unexpectedly passed away on June 23, 2020. Our foundation joins the community in forever being inspired by his kindness, heart, integrity, service to others, commitment, and unwavering leadership in education, all of which were guided by his faith. His community involvement was deep and wide. His realized dream of opening a center for classes to better serve all residents of Yadkin County is among his most renowned impacts. This scholarship opportunity is offered to honor his dedication to Yadkin County and SCC’s Yadkin Center and serves as one more way to honor and celebrate Dr. Matthews’ life, his contributions, and his tremendous model of servant leadership that he lived into daily throughout the community he loved.

Amount: Up to $2,500 for local adults/young adults from Yadkin County who plan to attend Surry Community College - Yadkin Center to complete a credential-producing program leading to an in-demand occupation. This includes programs such as Welding Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Nurse Aide, Computer-integrated Machining, and truck driving. Applicant financial need and community service/service to others will be considered in the selection of a recipient.

An "Adult Student" is any student who graduated high school, or equivalent, last school year or prior.
